Discover the ancient Mesoamerican concept of nagual. Los Nahuales is the name given to animal spirits linked to human souls.
The term has a myriad of translations: avatar, spiritual guide, alter ego, guardian spirit, other self, pet, etcé
It’s also familiar to readers of the Harry Potter books, Philip Pullman‘s stories and was wonderfully illustrated in the film Avatar.
They are also sometimes represented by alebrijes, a colorful carving traditionally made from sacred copal wood. They were widely popularized in Walt Disney’s film COCO.
